Ipswich Wedding Photography of Sharon and Glenn
Wedding Photography of Sharon & Glenn who got married at All Hallows Church Ipswich, Suffolk; followed with their wedding reception at Ipswich Ruby Club. Sharon & Glenn got married on one of the hottest days in the summer and temperatures were sweltering in the 30 plus degrees Celsius.
Hot sunny weather requires similar considerations to bad weather with wedding photography, as the intense sun light causes many problems. For example, if people are facing the sun they are blinded by the light and will be squinting, and in the photos they will have deep shadows in the eye sockets. Therefore the only solution if there is no shelter is to face the sun myself being careful to avoid flare and getting the correct exposure.
The church where Sharon & Glenn got married only had a small area of lawn at the front. However the front of the church is south facing, which is very common for most churches. This of course means that everyone will be directly facing the sun! There was absolutely nowhere to shelter from the sun and no space behind the church, which would have put the people in the shade solving all the problems. Photographing into the sun would mean having the people grouped together in front of the road with passing traffic and resident homes behind. Far from ideal!
The vicar was friendly and agreed to allow me to photograph the groups inside the church but would only allow a few minutes. Knowing this was not practical I had agreed with Sharon that we may need to do the groups shots at the reception in the event of poor weather. Unfortunately photographically bright sun shine can be as bad as rain when it comes to wedding photography if there is no escape from the glare of the sun. Sharon & Glenn had many wedding guests, so we did the group shots at the reception as it was the only sensible solution. They had a marquee, which turned out to be great for photography as it was relatively bright inside with a nice soft light.
A marquee actually makes a great place to hold a wedding reception as it makes it possible to have a wedding ceremony and/or reception virtually anywhere. Sharon & Glenn had organised catering and live music for their reception, which was superb. They only used the Rugby club house for cheap drinks
I wouldn’t like to guess how large the marquee was but it housed well over 100 guests with a large dance floor and stage for the band – not to mention kitchens for the catering. The marquee could of course be made any size depending on the number of guests making it very practical and probably cost effective for any size wedding reception. It also had large chandeliers hanging from the roof making it appear very grand inside.
As the wedding reception was not very photogenic for Bride & Groom portraits, Sharon & Glenn got permission to go to Westerfield House to have some photos taken there before heading off to the Ruby Club, literally a few hundred metres up the road, for their wedding breakfast.
Westerfield House is where Imke and I had our wedding reception, so it felt quite strange going back there after all this time
. Unfortunately it is currently closed presumably waiting for new ownership, which is a shame. However it is at least kept well maintained making it a great place for a few pictures of the Bride & Groom.
Sharon & Glenn bought their children and close family so we took many photos with the family and did not have much chance to spend time with them alone. They soon got concerned about their guests so we all rushed off to the Rugby club to finish the family group photos and mock cake cutting before they continued with the wedding celebrations.
