When I got home tonight I had a nice surprise from the SWPP with a certificate Gold Award for Beauty and Fashion from a Boudoir session last year. Originally it received Silver but has subsequently been upgraded to a Gold. This is fantastic news and a great start to the New Year!
Last year was my first year entering images in the monthly competition, so I’m delighted to have now received three Gold Awards. However this is especially satisfying as it now means I have Gold for Boudoir as well as Contemporary Wedding, which are my main specialities!
As this picture is safe for work I’m delighted to post the full size image on the same page:
Gold Award for Fashion & Beauty.
This was only my first or second boudoir photography session using the luxurious burgundy red velvet drape.
It wasn’t possible to get a really wide cloth to span six feet so Imke and I had to sew two lengths together, which was about four metres long! Velvet has a pile (or maybe it should be nap for cloth?) that goes in one direction so it was vital that both pieces had their pile flowing in the same direction. Depending on which way I hang the velvet has a big impact in the way it is recorded in the camera due to the way the light reflects on the material. I always have the pile running up, so that the material appears rich and dark.
