Today I was thrilled when I checked how my entries in January’s SWPP competition and found I was award four Silver Awards! This silver award for traditional portraiture was actually taken as part of a model portfolio photo shoot for Gareth from Norwich.
It is a great way to finish a model portfolio photo shoot with a stylish portraits as they make like them for other purposes such as a gift for friend or relatives. In fact modelling agencies will always want to see some more straight forward pictures to see how a model really looks. This portrait is anything but standard though…

This portrait was posed using my posing table & stool. Lighting was a single beauty dish as key light and background light, which is only visible in the top right corner due to the tight crop. To help create the shadows and sculpt his face I used black reflectors on each side that were positioned really close.
Other Silver Award winning pictures for January 2009:
- Portraiture Traditional
- Portraiture Contemporary
- Monochrome - male figure work
- Fine Art – anonymous nude fine art boudoir
Here are some more pictures from the model portfolio shoot.
