I was delighted when I checked how my entries in January’s SWPP competition and found I was award four Silver Awards! This silver award for contemporary portraiture was actually taken as part of a model portfolio photo shoot for Gareth.
This particular shot was taken as part of a series of shots taken on classic infinity white backdrop created with a roll of white paper. We started with a few shots of Gareth & Amber as a Bride & Groom doing a Flamenco dance. Then Gareth posed on this own whilst still wearing his black suit, which reminded me of the Blues Brothers. I wanted to make a shot with a bit of a tough attitude so got up high on a step ladder and really close to fill the frame with Gareth’s face. The I asked him to look up so I’d get a menacing look.
Could this have been taken in the 80′s?

Lighting was a single beauty dish as key light and background was lit with a softbox from camera right. The background light was set correctly where the light burnt hottest to create a bit of change in tone across the backdrop as a whole rather than simply burn it right out.
