Wedding Photographer Long Melford Suffolk First Dance
Wedding Photographer Long Melford, Suffolk until the first dance
This is the forth and final episode of an in depth look at Hannah & Rob’s wedding at Long Melford, Suffolk.
We started with the bridal preparations and Hannah’s grandmother’s and then went on to the wedding ceremony followed by Bride & Groom shots on location. Now we finish the series with a few family & friend group shots shots, cutting of the cake, Bride & Groom at the reception, Reservoir Dogs style groomsmen and finally the first dance to complete their day.
When we arrived back from the Bride & Groom shots on location everyone was waiting with confetti at the ready. They waited in to one side while I photographed Hannah and Rob getting out of the wedding car. I asked everyone to throw the confetti up in the air as the Bride & Groom walked past them, which they all did beautifully.
We then did the group shots on the village green. The trees provide a nice background but everyone was facing the sun, which was less than ideal even with the overcast weather. It started raining at one point and we were about to abandon the shots when the sun came out for a while, which was a spot of luck!
After the meal there was the customary speeches. As the room was very dark I set up my one flashgun on a remote light-stand, which was triggered by a device fitted on my main camera. At this point in the day I use two cameras; my main camera with a standard 24-70mm zoom and the other with my 70-200mm zoom. This allows me to capture general views as well as close ups. Things can happen really fast when it comes to speeches, so having two cameras is really the best option. I also need to use the cameras hand held so flashguns are essential to ensure sharp images but I am also keen to avoid the terrible side shadows that you see in far too many wedding photos by other photographers.
Rob was very keen on doing a Reservoir Dogs style shoot, which we did at the back of The Bull.
Later we found Hannah and did a couple more Bride & Groom shots before they went to cut the cake and have the first dance. These pictures were lit again using a remote flashgun on a light-stand, which I had set up earlier.
The final shot here was actually shot earlier in one of the corridors of the hotel, which one a gold award for contemporary wedding photography with the SWPP. This was shot using only natural light with the camera mounted on my tripod.
