Bronze Award for Monochrome

Monochrome suited this image perfectly.  So I am pleased that it achieved a Bronze Award in this month’s SWPP competition.

This was taken on a recent commission for a photo session on location.

After a recent seminar with Canadian wedding photographer David Beckstead, I have been inspired to experiment with placing the subject centrally in the composition.  This is normally frowned upon but I think it has worked well in this image.

If you have seen my previous articles on awards this month, you will know that I have been paying close attention to the SWPP definition of each competition category.  This is the SWPP definition for monochrome:

“Images entered in this category must be either black and white OR coloured in one single tonal range, for example sepia images are permitted. There are no subject restraints,
ANY subject and style as long as it’s monochromatic. If a colour image is to be converted to monochrome then good control of contrast and the proper management of shadow and highlight detail is essential.”
