Bride & groom sign the marriage register
Last weekend I heard one couple’s horror story with their wedding photographer. I heard the story by chance from the guy bought my Mitsubishi Pajero V6 3.0 4×4. It was a sad day to see the jeep go as we have had it for five years but its value has plummeted while its running costs had soared.
The guy was in the motor trade and we were chatting casually. I mentioned taking a redundancy deal in order to take up full time photography. He then asked if I knew the wedding photographer who photographed his wedding. Amazingly, I did know the photographer in question and HAD held them in high regard.
I was mortified when I heard the ensuing story!
The professional photographer, who shall remain nameless, had been very impressive when they met to discuss their wedding details. And they had agreed on a wedding package.
On the day of the wedding things did not go as expected. The photographer completely took over their day. They were deeply upset by the whole experience!
I did not want to take what I heard too literally. But that was just the start of the story.
Worse was jet to come!
Thank you card received from one of my brides.
The couple went off on their honeymoon and forgot about the photographer’s behaviour on their wedding day. After all they had seen and liked their work, so they had a beautiful wedding and parent albums to look forward to.
After returning from their honeymoon they met with the photographer and ordered their wedding albums and was up-sold a large framed print. They had paid half the price up front on the understanding the remaining amount would be paid on completion.
All seemed well.
A few weeks later they received the call to say their products were ready for them to collect. Excited they made an appointment to collect their wedding albums and large framed print.
They were in for a shock!

They were informed that they would have to pay double the agreed price for their products!
He could not believe his ears. He was fuming – who wouldn’t be?
He demanded his money back, which he had paid in cash. The photographer refused. After threatening to put the picture through the photographer’s window the photographer offered to reduce the price by £100.
By this time any pleasure that the frame print would have given was lost. He said the actual print quality was poor and blotchy like a canvas, which I assume was not intentional.
He got so angry he stuck his foot through the picture and left the photographer with the frame!
Apparently they are not alone with having terrible experiences at the hand of this wedding photographer. I guess meeting many people all the time being in the motor trade brings him in contact with a lot of people and they share their horror stories.

I cannot imagine how anyone could run a business in this manner. It is downright deceitful to mislead clients in any way. Of course the photographer’s intention was the couple would pay the additional money once the products were put in front of them. Personally I find this kind of behaviour despicable.
This kind of behaviour gives the whole profession a bad name.

my horror story I am a DIY bride because I am a broke bride my best friend has a cusin that did her wedding and many other weddings and other types of pictures too so my friend called her cusin to see what she would charge me to do my pictures she said for $450.00 she and another girl would come take all my pictures put them on disc and give me the copy rights so I agreed to this did not ask for a contract because it was my friends cusin three weeks ago the cusin called my friend and said because of her husband’s grandma’s birthday party she would only be able to stay until 6pm and the other girl would stay later so I changed my wedding from 5pm to 4pm so she would be there for the ceremony part now 79 days before the biggest day of my life she canceled on me and the other girl can’t do it eithter I think it is horrible thing to do with or without a paper contract my best friend is also very upset with her cusin we both think her cusin should be responsible for finding a replacement and any extra cost for it would really like to know what other people think I want other bride’s to know so they don’t make this terrible mistake thank you
Hi Carrie,
Thank you for sharing your story – my heart goes out to you.
It may not be too late to get a professional photographer. You might even be able to negotiate a reduction or let them use your story for PR – that could be worth a lot to a photographer helping you out.
Good luck. And best wishes on you big day!
