I’m delighted that this shot from a recent model portfolio received a Silver Award in last month’s SWPP competition for traditional portraiture.
Looking at this picture you might not think it’s traditional. However after checking the entry criteria I noted that to be considered contemporary it must have an unusual background or taken with a different perspective such as a the viewing angle. Whereas traditional portraiture is considered to be well posed and pleasantly lit, which this is. I set up the lighting to reveal his toned physique and added a little rim light to separate him from the background.
