Changes coming to the photography studio

in Boudoir

We’re going to have some radical changes to how we’re running the studio. This follows a consultation with Simon who runs a company specializing in marketing and sales for the photography industry.

I’ve never really marketed for family portraiture in the past believing it wouldn’t be possible to compete against high street studios. However Simon convinced me that there is a huge market out there and many people appreciate the personal touch that high street studios cannot offer. And some high street studios are so expensive most people don’t go more than once.

When you think about the whole portrait market – boudoir and glamour makeovers etc. are a very small niche. With East Anglia being a rural area it’s going to be an up hill struggle to flourish.

What does this mean for you?

We have no plans to change what we offer you photography wise. We will incorporate family portraiture into the studio. And we have been given a business blue print to achieve this. However, I will change the format and boudoir photography packages so all portraiture packages are the same. This will make the format simpler and cheaper for you. The core session fee will remain at £150 to reflect your longer time in the studio, your make-up and the higher skills required for artistic photography.

We’ll start by using the same proactive marketing strategies to help find more like minded people – like you.

We’ve already got a lot of the materials required to put the marketing strategies into action. Ironically, I’m being kept very busy right now with a flurry of wedding photography requests in addition to my usual boudoir photo sessions. Therefore it could take a while to implement, which is one reason why I’ve not published many blog posts this month.

One we’re ready to roll out a marketing campaign we’ll be getting credit card facilities, which I’ve started looking into. This will also be of direct benefit to you and all our clients, making your life easier.

We’re permanently mounting the white vinyl backdrop on the studio wall. This will make family portraiture more convenient and more children friendly. The brackets arrived yesterday. But Imke pointed out – we’ll need another rail to hang the net curtain before fitting the brackets to the wall.

In future you’ll be able to come to us for quality family portraits as well as your intimate photo sessions, which will be fantastic.

The curtains you see here will be going and replaced with permanent backdrop holder. We'll also need another rail to hang a net curtain and possibly normal curtain in the future to keep the studio homely.

The studio changing and make-up area will remain unchanged for now, although Imke would like to change all the curtains at some point :-)

The new backdrop system won't affect the classic boudoir studio set as that requires a special set up for draping the velvet and getting the lighting right.

I just realized how old these studio pictures are as there have been a few changes made since these photos were taken last year :-)
