Last Sunday we had a brief break from boudoir glamour photography Christmas orders to see our son’s Christmas concert.
Jon-Luke plays at the SupaStars academy …where dreams are made for rock and pop music.
This gave me a chance to do event photography, which I haven’t done for a while. And just an excuse to have some fun in addition to enjoying great music
I’m inspired by great black and white photography from bands playing live such as the album cover of The Clash, London’s Calling. This is what I had in mind when photographing Jon-Luke playing his guitar.
But there’s no way he’s allowed to smash his guitar on the stage. He has to wait until he can a professional – LOL.
I’ve been testing some new software for black and white conversion that gives incredible control and even has an engine for creating film grain. Although the images of Jon-Luke look grainy, this was all added by this software. It was almost grain free out of the camera. Finally the images were completed with a copper toning and a film like border as if the whole film negative was being enlarged onto the photographic paper.
Here are a few images from the concert. The introduction image is Jon-Luke playing Sweat Child O’ Mine by Guns ‘n’ Roses on his Les Paul replica just like Slash’s guitar. Stuart playing the drums in the background is the director of SupaStars academy keeping everyone in time.

Jon-Luke playing his guitar. Image converted to black & white and copper toned.

Everyone joins in for the grand finale.
