It was a pleasure to be the Suffolk photographer asked to cover Shaz’s Asian Henna party.
Even though I officially stopped photographing weddings last year, Shaz’s sister Lena had asked me to photograph Shaz’s wedding the year before. And having the opportunity to witness and photograph an Asian wedding was too much to resist.
Besides, I’m a firm believer in the saying – never say never
Shaz and Moh split their wedding celebrations between Ipswich and Birmingham. Asian weddings are usually spread over several days. I photographed her henna party and then their celebrations in the Novotel two days later.
The henna party was held in a marquee. There was just one flood light and a few hanging light bulbs for illumination. Modern professional digital cameras cope amazingly well in low light conditions. And the latest software creates incredible results as you can see below.

The bride is led into the area for receiving her henna party guests. The bridesmaid leaves a trail of petals.

Ribbons are tied around the brides wrists by two of her bridesmaids.

Beautiful bridal portrait taken between rituals.

One of the bridesmaids paints henna on the bride's hand in intricate patterns.

Everyone enjoys some club music after some traditional dancing.
