I was delighted to achieve recognition for this nude photograph of Highly Commended in the last round of SWPP’s 2012 monthly competition. These competitions attract photographers internationally and only the finest pieces of art get recognised.
This was also my first attempt in the category of Digital Art.
A Picture Paints A thousand Words
They say, “A picture paints a thousand words” and this picture has an interesting story behind it.
Melina contacted the studio saying she had seen my previous image of the Blue Nude. And she was very interested in having a similar portrait taken.
Melina and her husband are keen on classical art and have many paintings displayed in their home.
Recently, she had been to the seaside town of Southwold. There are several fine art retailers in Southwold.
Melina bought her husband a beautiful nude painting. He loved the painting. But his first reaction was to say that it was a shame it wasn’t of her.
She called his bluff!
…And decided to give him the ultimate gift, with a classical fine art nude portrait.
Melina researched some classical paintings and we discussed how we could recreate these images in a similar vein.
She wanted a smooth painterly look to her fantasy portraits. And something tasteful she could hang in pride of place in their family home.
She Surprised Herself By Doing It
She said that she surprised herself by going through with it. But she loved the results.
It was really hard choosing one portrait but finally opted for a classical pose, which I created on our boudoir set with the draped burgundy velvet. I painted over the photograph by hand to give the authentic look. But that’s a subject for another post.
As you know, Melina originally came to my studio after seeing the Blue Nude.
She couldn’t live without it.
So after choosing the perfect gifts for him with a classical nude portrait, she took the Blue Nude too!
I used the background layers from my original piece and refined them further. I was delighted with my final result, which is why I entered into the photographic competition.
When Melina saw her completed works of art for the first time, she was very EXCITED and fell in LOVE with them immediately.
Can you imagine the look on her face as her husband opened his gift?
Here’s what Melina through about her experience:
