Wedding trends for 2009
If you’re planning a wedding for 2009, you’re probably wondering what will be trendy and hip this coming year. There’s no denying that 2009 Wedding Trends will be heavily influenced by the economy. However there are many ways in which a smaller budget has inspired couples to have more creative, intimate, and personal weddings.
These weddings are benefiting from a heavy dose of chic style, influenced by the many images and ideas circulating around the Internet. Rather than huge weddings, where cost cutting means cutting back on grandeur, the 2009 wedding will be full of fabulous details and luxuries through designing smaller more affordable weddings.
Farm Weddings
Farms can be an affordable place to get married with a lot of charm. Farms could provide idyllic pastoral settings for your wedding. Look for a farm that has a barn suitable for a reception and maybe even for the ceremony itself. One such Suffolk wedding venue is Wantisden Valley Barns, which is a large barn converted especially for large functions such as weddings.
For 2009, an environmental concept may be integrated in the celebration. Aside from incorporating biologically and ecologically-friendly materials in the fabrics worn by the Bride & Groom, you may choose to give plants as gifts to their guests.
Small Luxurious Weddings
Budgets may be tight, but that doesn’t mean that luxury and glamour will be lost. Many couples will opt for intimate glamorous affairs with close family and friends for the ceremony and reception sit-down meal. By having fewer guests, they can have more opulent details, beautiful wines and gourmet tasting menus. With such a backdrop, it then feels right to be in your tuxedos and gowns, surrounded only by your truest friends and loved ones. Then when celebrations become an evening party with a live band or disco you can invite everyone you know to join in the festivities and celebrate your union with you.
Macaroons
These delightful French cookies not only have a delicious almond flavor and light texture, but bakers have a tradition of making them in bright eye-catching colors. This can make them perfect for weddings being made to fit your colour scheme. The newest trend is creating a tower of macaroons instead of a wedding cake, but they’re also stunning as an accompaniment to wedding cake.
Colours
For the past few years, chocolate brown has been the “In Colour” popping up in weddings as a hip neutral, and combined with bright pink or cheery yellow. While chocolate brown isn’t going anywhere, the new colour for 2009 is grey. You may think of grey seems a boring colour for weddings but on the contrary it can serve as a sophisticated foil to brighter colours. For example it can look great complimented with pink or yellow. Perhaps the hottest combination this year will be silver and royal purple.
The most popular colour for next season is purple, from pale lavender to deep purples and every shade in between. For winter, black, plum and navy will take center stage. For Spring it will be latte, coral and lavender. For Summer, mauve, sage and turquoise will dominate and for autumn, the top colours will be emerald, burgundy and chocolate. Shiny metallic will be what couples who want added glitz will choose.
And, of course, there are those who predict that black will reign supreme in everything from gowns to decor and accessories and grey and white will always be “in” colors.
Affordable and renewable Bridesmaids dresses
Forget the peach tulle atrocities of yesteryear. 2009 Brides are considerate and mindful of the economy. Brides for 2009 will be looking for bridesmaid dresses that are truly re-wearable and offer great value for money.
Vintage Fashion
Having a vintage-inspired wedding is a great way to add some style without adding a lot of cost. 1920’s weddings will be especially hot this year. Many designers also make a wide range of chic styles to look both vintage and modern, whimsical and classic, all at the same time.
Wedding favours the 2009 way
Gone were the days when you have to give wedding favours just to express gratitude for the presence of your intimate friends.
On a more practical note, 2009’s personalized gifts have taken things a notch higher. Your personalised gift will be something your guests will find practical as well as serve to remember the special occasion.
A lot of ideas have already struck the minds of the Bride & Groom when it comes to giving wedding favours. Traditional wedding bells and “couple” figurines no longer in vogue. The modern way of saying thank you to your visitors include delectable desserts with recipes in it or even plants in small pots.
The role of the Internet in 2009 weddings
Social networking is rapidly becoming a part of everybody’s lives. Many of us spend hours surfing the internet for several purposes. And yes, you could do the same thing for planning your wedding day. Your web browsers could definitely contribute a lot when it comes to your wedding plans. From the proposal to consultation with wedding planners, services provides as well as seeking opinions from friends can all be done on-line. Besides this, you have a lot of online wedding shops which could give you a handful of help for wedding favours and other wedding-related materials. Most wedding services providers can also be found on-line now such as the wedding venue, florist, transportation, catering, entertainment, wedding photographer or videographer.
Wedding Photography
Formal and posed shots will always be popular and essential part to any wedding. However, more and more couples also enjoy candid, photojournalistic style photography to be included. Black and white photos continue to grow in popularity, as an addition to the colour photographs.
Bridal Boudoir Photography
Boudoir photography is definitely gaining popularity among to-be brides, but what’s it really all about?
Boudoir photography is a sexy new trend that’s especially popular as a wedding day gift from a Bride to her Groom. Boudoir photos are usually taken wearing either just a little or nothing at all. They’re hardly X-rated though more like a 12 or 15. Inspiered by the classic pinups or what the pros call “implied nudes”.
Boudoir photography can also be done as part of the Bridal preparations with the Bridesmaids on hand to assist the Bride in dressing and making ready.
Unusual Honeymoons
Wild honeymoons like an Ice Hotel in the Arctic, backpacking in the rain forest, or honeymooning in a hut along the Amazon are definitely in.
Other Trends
Bridal couples are moving away from all-inclusive resort vacations in one honeymoon location and, instead opting for honeymoon-hopping to three or more locations.
Monogramming, once very popular is coming back into invitations, wallpaper and dinner plates. The look works well in complimenting a vintage-style wedding.
Themed weddings are becoming very popular. Brides are coming up with more and more creative ways to make their theme weddings stand out from the rest. To carry through a Harry Potter theme, in Britain brides are turning their wedding receptions into woodland fantasies, spraying trees purple and creating centerpieces that have an enchanted forest appearance..
Wedding Budgets
Results from recent surveys by The Wedding Report show that 62% of couples are cutting their wedding budgets by an average 32%.
This is reflected in choices that bridal couples are making, such as:
- Smaller weddings with fewer guests
- Destination weddings or destination type weddings closer to home
- Increased reliance on family and friends to help plan, pay, and provide some of the services
- Simplified decorations, centerpieces and wedding invitations
- Increased use of online RSVP’s vs. traditional mail-in RSVPs
- Off-peak weddings; Mornings, Afternoons, Fridays, Sundays
- Buffet meals, Hors d’oeuvre, and cocktail receptions
- All-inclusive packages
The key word in 2009 wedding trends is “glamour.” Well-to-do couples are being more and more extravagant. Those not in the affluent income category are opting for a small, decadent wedding, by electing to do more for fewer guests, rather than less for more guests. Whatever you do, keep in mind that it’s your wedding and it should reflect your style.
